MARTHAS MINISTRY
|
Mission
Our purpose is to aid the families and friends of deceased parishioners by welcoming and comforting “those who grieve and mourn.” The Marthas achieve this goal by providing luncheons/ receptions after funeral masses.
Additional Information:
We are made up of food providers and “hostesses”. Hostesses set up, serve, and clean up the receptions that we are asked to provide for grieving families. A hostess would be asked to arrive at the church prior to the scheduled funeral and work with other volunteers before, during and after the reception.
Food providers do just that – provide food for the event. The food may be “home made” or purchased prepared from the store or a restaurant, i.e. salads, casseroles, etc. We maintain three separate lists of food providers and rotate them so that no one is called for every funeral. If you are unable to provide food when contacted, no problem! We will call you during the next rotation.
Our ministry is a great comfort to grieving families, removing the need for them to try to provide hospitality to family and friends who have gathered to celebrate the life of a lost loved-one. Our volunteers receive deep satisfaction from easing the burden of those who mourn.
We are always in need of committed volunteers who are interested in either hostessing or donating food items. Both of these ways of giving are utilized on an as needed basis as The Marthas are always “on-call”. Funerals are normally scheduled Monday through Friday around 10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.
“As they continued their journey He entered a village where a woman whose
name was Martha welcomed him.” Luke 10:38
