How to PARTICIPATE IN THE Mass from home

This is practical advice so that you can live this celebration in such a way that it is a true spiritual food for your life. Do not forget that you are not watching any television show or any YouTube video. It is not something you can see eating or doing something else. Participating in the Holy Mass requires of you and those who accompany you an effort of attention, concentration, and exclusivity. This time is for the Lord!

  • Turn off all electronic devices.

  • Don't listen to the Mass alone. If you can, do it as a family, with your husband / wife, children, siblings, or with whom you are living. Invite them!

  • Prepare an altar in front of you, next to, or under the TV or computer,

  • Put up a cross, image of the Virgin, and light a candle to symbolize the beautiful light that shines in the dark and so that your home may resemble the church.

  • Open your Bible to the gospel of the day, read it before Mass, and place it on your "altar" to remember that Jesus Christ, the Word of God, is among you.

  • Watch what you wear: dress like you're going to Mass. Maintaining this routine is especially useful for children.

  • If you have holy water at home, bless yourself and your family before beginning Mass.

  • Take a few minutes of silence to move from the hustle and bustle of your home to the sacredness of Mass.

  • Live the Mass as if you were in the parish, keep silence, answer the prayers, participate in the songs, get up to read the Gospel, kneel for the Consecration.

  • At Communion time, pray the Act of Spiritual Communion (See below).

    • ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION (To be prayed during Communion Rite): My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.  I love You above all things,  and I desire to receive You into my soul.  Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,  come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

  • Don't be in a hurry: the Mass has incredible value and precisely at this time there are many things to pray for. Stay a few moments after Mass to ask God for all the deceased, the sick, the health personnel, the government, the Church, the Pope, Bishops, and priests.

  • Share with someone at home or on the phone what the Lord said to you.

  • Engage in community by having coffee and eating with your family after Mass or calling loved ones to connect.
