MARY TEACHES US TO RECEIVE AND SHARE CHRIST

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope that the joy of Christmas continues to be with you and with your family. We keep rejoicing today, as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. This feast is especially important to our Queen of Peace family. It celebrates Mary’s motherhood of Jesus. Just as Christmas honors Jesus as the “Prince of Peace,” the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, honors Mary as the “Queen of Peace.” We have this opportunity then, in this time of Christmas, which we are still in, to experience the peace that Christ and His Blessed Mother bring us; it’s an opportunity to seek reconciliation with those around us and to come together as one community of faith and have unity within our diversity.

The title “Mother of God” comes from the Greek word, Theotokos, which means “God-bearer.” On this day, we are reminded of the role that the Blessed Virgin played in the plan of our salvation. Through the Holy Spirit, God the Father prepared Mary to be the dwelling place where His Son and His Spirit could dwell among men. We venerate Mary as the place, or the way, for God to enter and to live in our humanity. Mary is the sign of hope for humanity: we can receive the grace that allows God to live among us.

For Christ to dwell in Mary, she first had to say yes to receiving Him. “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38). From Mary, we learn how to receive Him in our hearts, how to let him come and be close to us, how to let Him enter into our lives, and how to spend time with Him and have a relationship with Him and learn to love Him and be loved by Him At the end of the Adoration of the Shepherds in today’s Gospel, we see the necessary attitude for the Christian in front of all the Christmas Cycle, the way to receive Christ: “As for Mary, she treasured all these things (mysteries) and pondered them in her heart” (Lk 2:19).

Mary was the one who carried God and then brought Him to others. It was her mission and our mission too. Pope Francis has said Mary is the image of a Church which evangelizes, because she is evangelized: “After receiving the Good News told to her by the Archangel Gabriel, Mary, in her Magnificat, prophetically sings of the mercy whereby God chose her. The Virgin of Nazareth, betrothed to Joseph, thus becomes the perfect icon of the Church which evangelizes, for she was, and continues to be, evangelized by the Holy Spirit, who made her virginal womb fruitful” (Message of Pope Francis for Lent 2016).

The Christmas season is not over yet, do not let it pass you by! Now is the time to share the joy of the Good News, as Mary did. This new year will be a significant time for our parish and our mission of spreading the Good News. We are constructing a new parish center, building a community to be the Light of the nations, a place that will help us bring God to others. I invite you to come to the upcoming listening sessions to give your ideas for this new home. And above all, let us pray, entrusting our project to Christ and His Blessed Virgin Mother.

MARIA NOS ENSEÑA A RECIBIR Y COMPARTIR A CRISTO

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

Espero que la alegría de la Navidad continúe con ustedes y con su familia. Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad de María Santísima, Madre de Dios. Esta fiesta es especialmente importante para nuestra familia de Reina de la Paz. Celebra la maternidad de María. Así como la Navidad honra a Jesús como el "Príncipe de la Paz", la Solemnidad de María, Madre de Dios, honra a María como la "Reina de la Paz". Tenemos esta oportunidad entonces, en este tiempo de Navidad, en el que aún estamos, para vivir la paz que nos traen Cristo y su Santísima Madre; Es una oportunidad para buscar la reconciliación con los que nos rodean y unirnos como una comunidad de fe y tener unidad dentro de nuestra diversidad.

El título de "Madre de Dios" proviene de la palabra griega Theotokos, que significa "portadora de Dios". En este día nos recuerda el papel que la Santísima Virgen desempeñó en el plan de nuestra salvación. Por medio del Espíritu Santo, Dios Padre preparó a María para que fuera la morada donde su Hijo y Su Espíritu pudieran habitar entre los hombres. Veneramos a María como el lugar, o el camino, para que Dios entre y viva en nuestra humanidad. María es signo de esperanza para la humanidad: podemos recibir la gracia que permite a Dios vivir entre nosotros.

Para que Cristo viviera en María, María primero tuvo que decir sí a recibirlo. "Yo soy la esclava del Señor; cúmplase en mí lo que me has dicho"(Lc 1:38). De María, aprendemos a recibirlo en nuestros corazones, a dejarlo venir y estar cerca de nosotros, a dejarlo entrar en nuestras vidas, y a pasar tiempo con Él y tener una relación con Él y aprender a amarlo y a ser amado por Él. Al final de la Adoración de los Pastores en el Evangelio de hoy, vemos la actitud necesaria para el cristiano frente a todo el Ciclo Navideño, el camino para recibir a Cristo: "María, por su parte, guardaba todas estas cosas y las meditaba en su corazón."(Lc 2:19).  

María fue la que porto a Dios y luego lo llevó a otros. Era su misión y es nuestra misión también. El Papa Francisco ha dicho que María es la imagen de una Iglesia que evangeliza porque es evangelizada: " María, después de haber acogido la Buena Noticia que le dirige el arcángel Gabriel, canta proféticamente en el Magnificat la misericordia con la que Dios la ha elegido. La Virgen de Nazaret, prometida con José, se convierte así en el icono perfecto de la Iglesia que evangeliza, porque fue y sigue siendo evangelizada por obra del Espíritu Santo, que hizo fecundo su vientre virginal"(Mensaje del Papa Francisco para la Cuaresma 2016).

¡La temporada de Navidad no ha terminado todavía, no dejes que te pase! Ahora es el momento de compartir la alegría de la Buena Nueva, como lo hizo María. Este nuevo año será un tiempo significativo para nuestra parroquia y nuestra misión de difundir la Buena Nueva. Estamos construyendo un nuevo centro parroquial, construyendo una comunidad para ser la Luz de las naciones, un lugar que nos ayude a llevar a Dios a los demás. Los invito a venir a las juntas para dar sus ideas para este nuevo hogar. Y sobre todo, oremos confiando nuestro proyecto a Cristo ya su Santísima Virgen Madre.
