YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED AT OUR LISTENING SESSIONS TO BEGIN PLANNING A NEW PARISH CENTER: "I CAME BACK TO CHURCH NOT BY GOING TO MASS BUT THROUGH A PARISH CENTER"

I bless the Lord for allowing us to come together as a family of faith at the end of each Mass and share our views and desires with Him and with each other for our much-needed Parish Center facilities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participated in past campaigns, for this center and for the current and past churches. Queen of Peace parishioners have been extremely generous with God and with others in building a place to pray,          celebrate our faith, and grow in our faith in order to be the disciples that Christ is calling today to build up his Kingdom in this confused and troubled world. I thank Mr. Adam Hermanson, one of the architects designing our new facilities, for facilitating all the listening sessions and gathering all our input as he and another architectural firm prepare some preliminary designs.

I am happy to start this Ordinary Time 2017 reflecting on the gift of Baptism and what it has done in my life! I was baptized Catholic twenty days after my birth and that was the greatest day of my life. However, I never appreciated or recognized all the riches, healing and power Baptism into Christ and into his Church gave me. At the age of 12, I quit Confirmation classes and pretty much stopped going to Mass. I was too busy on Sundays with sports, parties with friends and homework! And the few times I went to Mass I did not understand what was going on, and felt nothing had to do with me, and I knew no one, or related to anything going on. In the meantime, the atheist media, unchurched friends, and the secular school taught me everything about God, religion, human sexuality, relationships and the world; and my relationship with my parents grew worse and worse, to the point of coming home only to sleep.

One night when I was sixteen, after four years without stepping into church, an older friend invited me to listen to a talk in the parish center of my local parish in Cordoba, Spain. He said he would come with me. I said I did not believe in priest, nuns, and the Mass. He said it was not Mass. It was just listening and hanging out for an hour. I hesitantly went. We met in the parish hall, an area of the parish facilities where I had never been before. I remember that the speakers read from the Bible, and    explained how the readings spoke about us. They shared how God had encountered and loved them in their lives and what He had done for them in a concrete and real way. I realized God was speaking to me in a personal way, and that He was      loving me in spite of everything. It was not until that night that I began to feel at home in the Church. I had discovered a place where I was loved in a personal way and where I could be myself. I kept coming to those meetings which ended up in a retreat which brought me back to Mass.

Today, there are thousands and thousands of youth and adults which are going through the same spiritual struggle I went through. A parish cannot survive just having a church. A church needs a parish center that completes and prepares for its mission. It is time for Queen of Peace to address our serious need before it is too late and our buildings need to be closed because of safety issues. There's no greater investment than giving our time, talent and treasure to God so that He may save and transform thousands of lives like mine. Now we understand the amazement and joy of John the Baptist in today's gospel when he sees Jesus coming: "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Forming others in the faith is the greatest development and achievement a person may ever have. Investing in a place where people today may have a life-changing personal encounter with Christ is the most rewarding accomplishment anyone can make. Queen of Peace will keep transforming people’s lives and families if we have the vision of faith to come together and leave a legacy of love and unity for so many looking for a sign of hope in the Catholic Church.

Now is the time to make that investment. Our current parish center has been a blessing for us for many years, and I am deeply grateful to the brothers and sisters that gave their time, talent, and treasure, to provide this space for us. But these buildings are reaching the end of their lifespan, and we can no longer keep putting a band aid on them. The shingles on our buildings contain asbestos; the Great Room floor is not in compliance with the City of Aurora Code; the offices are excessively cold in winter due to poor construction, resulting in higher utility costs; there is water seeping through the foundation under the office area, risking the safety and health of employees, volunteers, parishioners, and visitors. The amount of money necessary to repair and remodel these worn out facilities would be more prudently spent on demolition and building anew. We have a vision of a beautiful place where we can be God's people to serve thousands of families in our Aurora area! Now is the time to put to work the many graces the Lord has given us in this parish!

SE NECESITA SU OPINION EN NUESTRAS REUNIONES PARA EMPEZAR A PLANEAR UN NUEVOCENTRO PARROQUIAL: “YO REGRESE A LA IGLESIA NO A TRAVES DE LA MISA, SINO A TRAVES DE UN CENTRO PARROQUIAL”

Bendigo al Señor por permitirnos reunirnos como familia de fe al final de cada Misa y compartir nuestros puntos de vista y deseos con Él y con los demás sobre las tan necesitadas instalaciones del Centro Parroquial. Quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a todos los que   participaron en campañas pasadas, para este centro y para la iglesia actual y las pasadas. Los feligreses de Reina de la Paz han sido extremadamente generosos con Dios y con los demás en la construcción de un lugar para orar, celebrar y crecer en nuestra fe para ser los discípulos que Cristo llama hoy para edificar su Reino en este confuso y atribulado mundo. Agradezco al Sr. Adam Hermanson, uno de los arquitectos que esta diseñando nuestras nuevas instalaciones, por facilitar todas las reuniones y juntar todas nuestras aportaciones para que él y otra empresa de arquitectura preparen algunos diseños preliminares.

¡Estoy feliz de comenzar este Tiempo Ordinario 2017 reflexionando sobre el don del Bautismo y lo que ha hecho en mi vida! Fui bautizado católico veinte días después de mi nacimiento y ese fue el mejor día de mi vida. Sin embargo, nunca aprecie ni reconocí todas las riquezas, la sanación y el poder que el Bautismo en Cristo y en su Iglesia me dio. A la edad de 12 años, dejé las clases de Confirmación y prácticamente deje de ir a Misa. ¡Estaba demasiado ocupado los domingos con los deportes, las fiestas con los amigos y la tarea! Y las pocas veces que iba a Misa no entendía lo que estaba pasando, y sentía que nada tenía que ver conmigo, y no conocía a nadie, ni me relacionaba con nada. Mientras tanto, los medios de comunicación ateos, los amigos sin la iglesia y la escuela secular me enseñaron todo acerca de Dios, la religión, la sexualidad humana, las relaciones y el mundo; Y la relación con mis padres empeoró y empeoró, hasta el punto de que iba a casa sólo para dormir.

Una noche, cuando tenía dieciséis años, después de cuatro años sin poner pie en la iglesia, un amigo mayor me invitó a escuchar una charla en el centro parroquial de mi parroquia local en Córdoba, España. Dijo que vendría conmigo. Le dije que no creía en los sacerdotes, las monjas o la Misa. Dijo que no era Misa. Sólo íbamos a escuchar y estar ahí una hora. Con dudas, fui. Nos    encontramos en el salón parroquial, una zona de las instalaciones parroquiales donde nunca había estado antes. Recuerdo que los presentadores leyeron la Biblia y explicaron cómo las lecturas hablaban de nosotros. Compartieron cómo Dios los había encontrado y amado en sus vidas y lo que Él había hecho por ellos de una manera concreta y real. Me di cuenta de que Dios me hablaba de una manera personal, y que Él me amaba a pesar de todo. No fue hasta esa noche que empecé a sentirme como en casa en la Iglesia. Había descubierto un lugar donde me amaban personalmente y donde podía ser yo mismo. Seguí viniendo a esas reuniones que terminaron en un retiro que me trajo de regreso a la Misa.

Hoy en día, hay miles y miles de jóvenes y adultos que están atravesando la misma lucha espiritual por la que yo atravesé. Una parroquia no puede sobrevivir simplemente con una iglesia. Una iglesia necesita un centro parroquial que la complete y la prepare para su misión. Es hora de que Reina de la Paz se ocupe de nuestra seria necesidad antes de que sea demasiado tarde y nuestros edificios se cierren por cuestiones de seguridad. No hay mayor inversión que dar nuestro tiempo, talento y tesoro a Dios para que Él pueda salvar y transformar miles de vidas como la mía. Ahora comprendemos el asombro y la alegría de Juan el Bautista en el evangelio de hoy cuando ve a Jesús venir: "He aquí el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo" (Juan 1:29). Formar a otros en la fe es el mayor desarrollo y logro que una persona puede tener. Invertir en un lugar donde la gente puede tener un encuentro personal con Cristo que cambie su vida es el logro más gratificante que cualquiera puede tener. Reina de la Paz seguirá transformando las vidas de las personas y sus familias si tenemos la visión de la fe para unirnos y dejar un legado de amor y unidad para tantos que buscan un signo de esperanza en la Iglesia Católica.

Este es el momento de hacer esa inversión. Nuestro centro parroquial actual ha sido una bendición para nosotros por muchos años, y estoy profundamente agradecido a los hermanos y hermanas que dieron su tiempo, talento y tesoro, para proporcionar este espacio para nosotros. Pero estos edificios están llegando al final de su vida, y ya no podemos seguir poniéndoles un curita. Las tejas en nuestros edificios contienen asbesto; El piso de la Iglesia Viejita no está en conformidad con el Código de la Ciudad de Aurora; Las oficinas son excesivamente frías en invierno debido a la mala construcción, lo que resulta en mayores costos de servicios públicos; Hay agua que se filtra por los cimientos debajo del área de la oficina, arriesgando la seguridad y la salud de los empleados, los voluntarios, los feligreses, y los visitantes. La cantidad de dinero necesaria para reparar y remodelar estas instalaciones sería más prudentemente utilizado en la demolición y la reconstrucción. Tenemos una visión de un lugar hermoso donde podemos ser el pueblo de Dios para servir a miles de familias en nuestra zona de Aurora. ¡Este es el momento de poner en práctica las muchas gracias que el Señor nos ha dado en esta parroquia!
