YOUR FEEDBACK IS CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE NEW PARISH CENTER

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I would like to thank everyone who in the past couple of weeks has emailed, called, or spoken to me in person about their thoughts for the new building. I have heard so many wonderful ideas, and I’d like to encourage you to continue to share yours. EVERY idea to build up our faith community is welcome!

I have heard from many of you about your struggles to have adequate space for your group, and I agree with you. In today’s Gospel, we hear that “When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them” (Mt 5:1-2). Teaching is at the heart of Christianity and a huge part of our mission at Queen of Peace. We are forming and equipping disciples of Christ to go out and announce the Good News. That requires teaching the faith to our children, our youth, our engaged couples, and providing ongoing instruction and services to adults. But currently, we don’t have the adequate space to sit and teach. Students are crammed into small, poorly-insulated classrooms that are too hot in the warmer months and too cold in the winter. Our buildings were not made to last us 40 years, as they have. They were made to last 10 years and they have given all the life they could and more. Now are dying and giving up on us.

Next in our plans to rebuild is a feasibility study, to help us determine the potential of a capital campaign for this project. We are working with Cosgriff Company, a 54-year-old national Catholic resource development firm, so that we can make the best possible plans for the future of Queen of Peace.

In the next few weeks, the company will begin the study, which has two parts: the first is a series of confidential, personal interviews with a cross section of people from our community. Because it’s not possible to interview everyone in person, the second part of the study includes a mail survey with an optional web-based portion. The combination of both personal and mail surveys will help us gather insight and direction. It will help us determine how we can best approach the project to ensure the kind of success that will benefit our community for many generations to come.

Your participation is critical for the feasibility study. Remember, this is YOUR parish center. Your honest thoughts and suggestions will help us determine the future of the project. During the study, the company will not ask for a donation, we are early in the planning process. They only want your opinion. Your responses are confidential. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Another step we are taking toward the rebuilding of our home is a weekly food sale, which will begin next Sunday, February 5th in the Great Room. We will have a different menu each week (you will find next week’s menu on page 7 of this bulletin). A different group of volunteers will give their time and talent each week to provide the food and drinks. Instead of going out to a restaurant with your family on a Sunday, I encourage you to come here, instead. It will be a wonderful opportunity to come together and share a meal with fellow parishioners. All proceeds will go to the new parish center. This new initiative was born out of an idea some of our Hispanic brothers and sisters shared at the Listening Sessions two weeks ago. So once again, I encourage you to share your opinion. I also ask for your prayers, that we may be open to the Lord’s call and guidance in this exciting endeavor for our Queen of Peace family.

SU OPINION ES CRUCIAL PARA EL EXITO DEL NUEVO CENTRO PARROQUIAL

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Me gustaría darle las gracias a todos los que en el pasado par de semanas han enviado correos electrónicos, han llamado, o han hablado conmigo en persona acerca de sus opiniones sobre el nuevo edificio. He escuchado tantas ideas maravillosas, y me gustaría animarlos a seguir compartiendo las suyas. ¡CADA idea para construir nuestra comunidad de fe es bienvenida!

He escuchado de muchos de ustedes acerca de sus luchas por tener un espacio adecuado para su grupo, y estoy de acuerdo con ustedes. En el Evangelio de hoy, oímos que "En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús vio a lamuchedumbre, subió al monte y se sentó. Entonces se le acercaron sus discípulos. Enseguida comenzó a enseñarles"(Mt 5, 1-2). La enseñanza está en el corazón del cristianismo y es una gran parte de nuestra misión en Reina de la Paz. Estamos formando y equipando a los discípulos de Cristo para salir y anunciar la Buena Nueva. Eso requiere enseñar la fe a nuestros hijos, a nuestra juventud, y proveer instrucción continua a los adultos. Pero actualmente, no tenemos el espacio adecuado para sentarnos y enseñar. Los estudiantes están abarrotados en aulas pequeñas, mal aisladas, que son demasiado calientes en los meses más cálidos y demasiado frías en el invierno. Nuestros edificios no fueron hechos para durar 40 años, como lo han hecho. Se hicieron para durar 10 años y han dado toda su vida y más. Ahora se están muriendo.

Lo siguiente en nuestros planes para reconstruir es un estudio de factibilidad, para ayudarnos a determinar el potencial de una campaña de capital para este proyecto. Estamos trabajando con Cosgriff Company, una compañía católica de desarrollo de recursos con 54 años de experiencia, para que podamos hacer los mejores planes posibles para el futuro de Reina de la Paz.

En las próximas semanas, la compañía comenzará el estudio, que consta de dos partes: la primera es una serie de entrevistas confidenciales y personales con una muestra representativa de personas de nuestra comunidad. Debido a que no es posible entrevistar a todos en persona, la segunda parte del estudio incluye una encuesta por correo con una porción opcional basada en la web. La combinación de encuestas personales y por correo nos ayudará a obtener información y orientación. Nos ayudará a determinar cómo podemos abordar mejor el proyecto para asegurar el tipo de éxito que beneficiará a nuestra comunidad para las generaciones venideras.

Su participación es fundamental para el estudio de factibilidad. Recuerden, este es SU centro parroquial. Sus ideas y sugerencias honestas nos ayudarán a determinar el futuro del proyecto. Durante el estudio, la empresa no les pedirá donaciones, estamos en el proceso de planificación. Sólo quieren tu opinión. Sus respuestas son confidenciales. Gracias de antemano por su cooperación.

Otro paso que estamos tomando hacia la reconstrucción de nuestra casa es una venta semanal de comida, que comenzará el próximo domingo 5 de febrero en la Iglesia Viejita a las 2:30pm. Tendremos un menú diferente cada semana (encontrará el menú de la próxima semana en la página 7 de este boletín). Un grupo distinto de voluntarios dará su tiempo y talento cadasemana para proporcionar la comida y bebidas. En lugar de ir a un restaurante con su familia a comer el domingo, los animo a venir aquí. Será una oportunidad maravillosa para reunirse y compartir una comida con otros feligreses. Todos los ingresos irán al nuevo centro parroquial. Esta nueva iniciativa nació de una idea que algunos hermanos y hermanas Hispanos compartieron en las Reuniones de hace dos semanas. Así que una vez más, les animo a compartir su opinión. También pido sus oraciones, para que podamos estar abiertos a la llamada y guía del Señor en este emocionante esfuerzo por nuestra familia Reina de la Paz.
