OUR PARISH MISSION INVITES US TO BE IMMERSED IN THE GLORY OF CHRIST

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

The tradition of the Church keeps the beautiful passage of the Transfiguration for the Second Sunday of Lent. We hear in the Gospel of this Sunday that “Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray” (Lk 9:28). Lent is a time to retreat from the business and worldliness of our complicated lives, in order to dedicate time to Christ. The primary thing for a Christian is to be with the Lord. Last Sunday, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert to fast and pray, in order to fight our temptations. This Sunday, Christ takes his disciples and goes away with them to the mountain of God to pray. All of us need to spend quality time to enter into a personal profound daily relationship with God. This week, at Queen of Peace, will be a time to do just that.

We will welcome Father Rafael Capo, executive director of the Southeast Pastoral Institute, which provides theological, pastoral, and ministry formation services and programs, as well as leadership formation programs for Hispanic lay-ecclesial ministers, youth, and young adults. His talks will focus on becoming missionary disciples, which Jesus calls all of us to be. How? How do we follow Jesus Christ? How do we share him with others? The mission will answer these questions and more.

The center of our mission will take place on Wednesday, with our parish penance celebration. This is because to do a mission, we need repentance and healing. We need to return to God, to receive the new life that Christ brings us.  The sacrament of reconciliation is a gift that prepares us for the resurrection; it’s an opportunity for us to be open to admitting our sins and asking for God’s real life. I invite everyone to take this time of Lent seriously and receive the gift of God’s mercy. If you regularly come to confession, I encourage you to come with a new attitude, a new spirit, a real desire to repent from our sins and turn to the new life God wants for us. If you don’t come to confession regularly, do not be afraid! Take advantage of this time of repentance. The Lord is waiting for you and for me to come with our sins, our offenses, our wrongdoings, and our unfaithfulness, to take them upon Himself and give us His mercy. He is waiting for us to arrive at the moment in which we discover that we cannot make it on our own. We’ve tried to make our own happiness and put our trust in ourselves. In this time of repentance, we are invited to put our foundation in Christ, repent, and return to the Lord.

I encourage all of you to make the time to come, Wednesday, at 7pm in the church, and Thursday and Friday at 7pm in the Great Room. This mission is for EVERYONE. For all the different ministries and groups; for all parishioners – whether you have been a member of Queen of Peace for a long time or this was your first visit; whether you always come to the parish missions or you’ve never come to one. Make this Lent different. Do not reduce this holy time to a few extrinsic and routine practices which do not change our lives from within, but be immersed into the full mystery of Christ, that is, to enter into his Passion as the way to glory.

NUESTRA MISIÓN CUARESMAL NOS INVITA A ESTAR INMERSOS EN LA GLORIA DE CRISTO

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

La tradición de la Iglesia mantiene el hermoso pasaje de la Transfiguración para el Segundo Domingo de Cuaresma. Escuchamos en el Evangelio de este domingo que "En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, el hermano de éste, y los hizo subir a solas con él a un monte elevado" (Mt 1:28). La Cuaresma es un tiempo para alejarnos de la mundanalidad de nuestras vidas complicadas, para dedicarle tiempo a Cristo. Lo principal para un cristiano es estar con el Señor. El domingo pasado, Jesús fue guiado por el Espíritu Santo al desierto para ayunar y orar, a fin de combatir nuestras tentaciones. Este domingo, Cristo toma a sus discípulos y se va con ellos al monte de Dios para orar. Todos necesitamos pasar tiempo para entrar en una relación personal profunda y diaria con Dios. Esta semana, en Reina de la Paz, será un tiempo para hacer precisamente eso.

Le daremos la bienvenida al Padre Rafael Capó, director ejecutivo del Instituto Pastoral del Sureste, que ofrece servicios y programas teológicos, pastorales y de formación ministerial, así como programas de formación de liderazgo para ministros laicos eclesiásticos hispanos, jóvenes y adultos jóvenes. Sus charlas se enfocarán en convertirse en discípulos misioneros, a lo cual Jesús nos llama a todos. ¿Cómo? ¿Cómo seguimos a Jesucristo? ¿Cómo lo compartimos con los demás? La misión responderá a estas preguntas y más.

El centro de nuestra misión tendrá lugar el miércoles, con nuestra celebración penitencial parroquial. Esto es porque para hacer una misión, necesitamos arrepentimiento y sanación. Necesitamos volver a Dios, para recibir la nueva vida que Cristo nos trae. El sacramento de la reconciliación es un don que nos prepara para la resurrección; Es una oportunidad para nosotros de estar abiertos a admitir nuestros pecados y pedir la vida auténtica de Dios. Invito a todos a tomar en serio este tiempo de Cuaresma y recibir el don de la misericordia de Dios. Si vienes regularmente a la confesión, te animo a que vengas con una nueva actitud, un nuevo espíritu, un verdadero deseo de arrepentirte de tus pecados y dirigirte a la vida nueva que Dios quiere para nosotros. Si no vienen a la confesión regularmente, ¡no tengan miedo! Aprovechen este tiempo de arrepentimiento. El Señor nos espera con nuestros pecados, nuestras ofensas, nuestras faltas y nuestra infidelidad, para tomarlos sobre sí mismo y darnos su misericordia. Él está esperando que lleguemos al momento en que descubrimos que no podemos hacerlo por nuestra cuenta. Hemos tratado de crear nuestra propia felicidad y poner nuestra confianza en nosotros mismos. En este tiempo de arrepentimiento, estamos invitados a poner nuestro fundamento en Cristo, arrepentirnos y regresar al Señor.

Les animo a todos a hacer el tiempo para venir, lunes, martes, y miércoles a las 7 en la iglesia. Esta misión es para TODOS. Para todos los diferentes ministerios y grupos; Para todos los feligreses - para los que han sido miembros de Reina de la Paz durante mucho tiempo y para quienes esta fue su primera visita; Si siempre vienes a las misiones parroquiales o nunca han venido a una. Hagan que esta Cuaresma sea diferente. No reduzcan este tiempo santo a unas pocas prácticas extrínsecas y rutinarias que no cambian nuestras vidas desde dentro, sino que se sumergen en el pleno misterio de Cristo, es decir, para entrar en su Pasión como el camino a la gloria.
